X-Men: Deadly Genesis revealed that before creating the team who first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 in 1975, Charles Xavier had put together another who perished after he sent them in to try and rescue the original group during one of their early adventures. However, one of them survived, and Vulcan was revived years later and came looking for revenge on Professor X and his team. After murdering Banshee, it was revealed that this was Gabriel Summers, the secret brother of Cyclops and Havok. Betrayed by Xavier's role in covering up his brother's existence and apparent death, Scott banished his mentor from the X-Men.
