20 Totally Badass Comic Book Panels‏

14. Jesse Custer Dodges Bullets

To be honest, we could've filled a whole list with badass panels from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Preacher. This mature readers Vertigo series retains a cult following, who are currently waiting for bated breath to see how the endlessly percolating TV adaptation (helmed, weirdly, by Seth Rogen) will turn out. Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a former wildchild who finds his calling in the Church and answers the call. Turns out that not only is he a good priest, but he's also bonded to the unholy child of an angel and a demon. Which gives him some pretty sweet powers. Custer sets off on a cross-country trip across America in search of - literally - God, who abandoned heaven as soon as this baby was born. Sort of a Biblical Jeremy Kyle thing going on. Along the way Jesse has to deal with religious extremists, terrifying inbred hillbillies and the unfortunately disfigured (and nicknamed) Arse Face. One of the stand-out panels for us amongst all this madness, however, is simply his using his powers of suggestion to easily deal with a guard who claims he'll shoot him dead after the first word out of his mouth. That word? "MISS."
