First Appearance: Captain American Vol 1 #431 (September 1994) The 90's were a simple time, a time when comic publishers thought that throwing in some semi-naked women with giant hooters could replace such old-fashioned tropes as characterisation and plot. Unfortunately, not even the Star Spangled Avenger could avoid the 90's for long so by 1994, the writers saw fit to introduce two new sidekicks for Cap. Jack Flag wasn't the best but oh lord, Free Spirit represented absolutely everything that was wrong with the industry at the time. Graduate student Cathy Webster was subjected to experimental treatments that enhanced her body to peak physical condition but also brainwashed her into hating men and possibly clothes. Suffice to say, comic book limbo beckoned just a year or so later. Gotta love the 90's!
