5 Reasons The Joker Isn't The Greatest Comic Book Villain

1. He's Not Even The Most Insane Comic Book Character

Most of what makes Joker so great is the sheer unpredictability that stems from his insanity. However, there are characters who are as crazy as, and even crazier than, he is. Sometimes a villain, Deadpool, for example, makes the Joker seem relatively sane. He's so mentally unstable that he talks to the reader - breaking the fourth wall - has imaginary friends and has actually thought that if he killed a man he would become him. That's crazy. Look at Red Skull. There's nothing remotely sane about holding a gun up to a baby's head and shooting it. And there's certainly nothing sane about being a Nazi all those years after World War II had ended. Look at Mad Jim Jaspers (the clue is in the name). He was a mutant with the power to warp reality on a universal scale (essentially the same power that the Joker briefly had as Emperor Joker) and this had the side effect of quickly driving him mad - being driven mad by a power capable of changing the universe... that's madness. And then there's the Green Goblin - so crazy that he split in to two personalities who talked to each other. The Joker was never driven that mad. Essentially, the Joker is insane - there's absolutely no doubting that - but it's hardly a unique trait and there are arguably characters whose craziness dwarfs even his. So there you have it - five reasons why the Joker is not the greatest comic book villain. Do you agree? What else could show that Joker isn't the greatest comic book villain?
