5 Reasons Why Emma Frost May Save Mutantkind (And 5 Reasons Why She'll Be Their Death)

1. Save: Capt. Kate Pryde Trusts Emma

Emma Frost
Marvel Comics

Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde were long-time rivals dating back to Frost’s attempts to transfer Kitty to the Massachusetts Academy from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. This animosity continued even after they began working together as X-Men, though it softened when Emma begrudgingly provided telepathic communication between Kitty and Colossus when Shadowcat was trapped in a phased form and couldn’t speak. Also, Pryde stopped Frost from killing Sebastian Shaw.

When the island nation of Krakoa was established, Kitty could not pass through the Krakoan flowered gateways that admitted all other mutants. Emma Frost needed a Captain for her new ship “The Marauder” to police the black market of Krakoan drugs and to help liberate oppressed mutants, and thus she asked Kate, as Kitty now called herself, to build a crew. She also made Pryde the “Red Queen” of the Hellfire Trading Company and gave her the third seat on the Quiet Council.

Frost has said that she believes that everyone in the world owes their lives to Kate because she saved them from a world-killing bullet fired by the planet Breakworld. Kitty spent two years trapped inside the bullet, constantly phasing it, to avoid it hitting anything before she was rescued. Emma had a special broach created for Kate that she gave her at the most recent Hellfire Gala.
