5 Reasons Why Emma Frost May Save Mutantkind (And 5 Reasons Why She'll Be Their Death)

3. Save: Emma Was An X-Men Member For Several Years

Emma Frost
Marvel Comics

Emma Frost traveled to the mutant nation of Genosha to deal with the emotional fallout of murdering her younger sister. She taught at a mutant school until a Sentinel attack decimated the island, killing thousands. Frost survived thanks to a secondary mutation that allowed her to transform into a nigh-invulnerable diamond form. She was rescued by, and subsequently joined, the X-Men and took on a teaching position at the Xavier Institute where she had a particular interest in the telepathic quintuplets, The Stepford Cuckoos.

During the “Divided We Stand” storyline, Emma and Scott Summers answered a distress call by Warren Worthington III from San Francisco. They saved the city from an out-of-control Martinique Jason, the daughter of the original Mastermind. The Mayor of San Francisco welcomed the X-Men with open arms and Frost sent out a telepathic call that the city was a safe haven for mutants. They established the island base of Utopia in San Francisco Bay.

During the “Second Coming” arc, Emma acted as Scott’s chief line of communication with the “Alpha Team” of X-Men, as well as his moral support. She was with him when he expressed great reservations at the arrival of Hope, especially when the young mutant manifested the Phoenix Force. When the cosmic energy entity was fractured by Iron Man, Frost was one of five mutants to take a portion of it into herself.
