6. David F. Walker
An award-winning writer of comic books, novels and non-fiction, as well as a film critic, Walker has left his mark on a varied array of different series and characters during his career, with popular runs on DC's Young Justice and Naomi series, both part of the publisher's Wonder Comics imprint, and both Luke Cage, and Power Man & Iron Fist series for Marvel.
His comic book writing also extends to work for Dark Horse and Dynamite, on series such as Tarzan, Shaft and Red Sonja, while he also published the young adult novel Super Justice Force in 2013, and renowned pop culture 'zine BadAzz MoFo.
Walker reteamed with his Power Man & Iron Fist artist Sanford Greene (another black creator to check out!) to create a new series for Image in 2018, entitled Bitter Root. The series involves a family of monster hunters in 1920s Harlem, with the eighth issue soon to be released.
