When Thanos came on screen in Avengers: Infinity war, it was clear this was a different level of villain. Everything about his entrance displayed the power of him as a character. The shadow, his speech, his ability to make Thor seem like a weak puppet in his grasp. Then came his fight with the Hulk. The strongest Avenger fought hand to hand with Thanos and Thanos won. He won easily.

This opening scene set up the tone of Infinity War perfectly. This was the movie where anything could happen, signalled with the first two deaths as Heimdall is stabbed through the heart and Loki is choked to death in Thanos' hands.

Josh Brolin's interpretation of the Mad Titan was one of power and control and gave audiences a clear vision of why the universe was so terrified of him. He could do anything and, as shown in Infinity War, there was not much anyone could do to stop him.

Then came Endgame, and we were given a glimpse of what planets go through when Thanos invades. He appears, carrying his giant double-bladed sword, stained with the blood of those who would stand against him. In the end, it took all of the Avengers fighting against him to win the day, even with Cap carrying Mjolnir and, as such, the powers of Thor.

Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame is s truly terrifying and powerful villain, one Marvel will have trouble topping.
