8 Terrifying Interpretations Of Comic Book Villains

1. Homelander - The Boys

Homelander is a sociopath, plain and simple. He cares little for those around him, except when it is for his own benefit, and he cares nothing for humanity. At the same time, he is as charming as you would expect a superhero to be.

Antony Starr does this expertly in the Amazon Prime adaptation of The Boys. His performance portrays the character so expertly that it seems like the role could not be played by anyone else. His mixture of refined and handsome charm mixed with brutal apathy leads to a character that is truly terrifying, in part due to his unpredictability.

This is shown brilliantly in the first episode in which it seems like, despite other superheroes being perverts and liars, Homelander might be the real thing. A genuine hero.

That is until the end of the episode, which sees Homelander take down a jet with the mayor of Baltimore in it, killing everyone aboard. He even smiles as it crashes. Not a sadistic evil grin, but the smile of someone satisfied with themselves and their actions.

Homelander is a character who starts off bad and, with no spoilers, gets worse. Antony Starr does this sociopathic hero with a brilliance that makes the character truly terrifying.
