Some of the most hotly anticipated comics to release in 2019 are actually coming from some whole new DC imprints, with DC Zoom and DC Ink bringing several books aimed at younger readers in the coming months. One of which is Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass, a comic written by Supergirl: Being Super's Mariko Tamaki, with art handled by Steve Pugh.

Breaking Glass is set to release to the general public August 28 as a collected trade paperback, and tells the story of a 15-year-old Harley as she heads to Gotham for the first time. It's something of a departure for the character, with Tamaki retelling the character's origins in a brand-new universe, but it sounds brilliant, with the book discussing everything from gentrification, to activism, to the emergence of the Joker.

It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Breaking Glass sounds like a genuinely inventive reinterpretation of Gotham City. If it can bring younger readers into comic book shops, then DC must be praised.
