8 Times Asgard Went To War

7. The Eternals Saga

Hot off his return from DC, the King of Comics Jack Kirby set about crafting his latest classic in the Eternals. A nineteen issue series, Eternals detailed an encounter between early man and the Celestials - an encounter that, after various experiments by the celestials, led to the creation of modern man (carriers of the X-gene), the war hungry Deviants, and the titular Eternals, a race gifted with superior mental abilities and the inability to die.

How this offshoot of the human race relates to Thor and Asgard is rather interesting. During one of the Celestial's visitations to Earth, known as Hosts, Odin learned of their arrival and their intention to judge if the Earth should continue to exist. Not one to allow others to play with his toys, Odin called a meeting with the other leaders of Earth's various pantheons. This resulted in a delegation led by Odin traveling to Earth and unsuccessfully challenging the Celestials, forcing them to vow to refrain from interfering in the Celestial's affairs for the next millennia.

This would lead to a final confrontation between Asgard and the Fourth Host, which saw all the souls of the gods of Asgard, except for Thor, merge with the Destroyer Armor.

Now with the unified might of Asgard, the exceedingly powerful Odinsword in hand and roughly the same size of the Celestials, the Destroyer appeared before the Fourth Host. The Destroyer showcased its awesome might by doing what up until this point no character hand been able to do, by cutting off the arm of Nezzar the Calculator.

Unfortunately this amounted to nothing, as Nezzar began regenerating it's arm while the rest of the Fourth Host blocked the Destroyer's attacks and then bombard the armor with enough energy to destroy it and the souls of everyone inside.
