8 X-Men Characters You Didn't Realise Had Died

Wolverine is the face of X-Men media. So when Marvel decided to off the Canadian brawler in 2014's Death of Wolverine storyline, lots of media attention was given to the character.

But then comic book fans remembered something: Wolverine makes Marvel a ton of money. There was no way he was going to actually die and the whole event was nothing more than a gimmick to sell comics. And inevitably, fans were proven right as, to no one's surprise, Wolverine came back from the dead in 2017.

The fact that no one really believed that this was permanent makes Wolverine's death more of a comic trivia footnote than an actually important aspect of the character. Unless you were specifically looking for Logan during that brief time he was dead, you might not have even noticed he was gone. For a character as oversaturated in comic media as Wolverine, this seemed more like a much needed break than anything else.

It seems impossible to imagine a Marvel universe today without Wolverine, and many have appropriately blocked it from their memories entirely.
