Alison and her parents had a tight and tense relationship because her father was a strict law student, where as her mother was a free-spirited entertainer. Their relationship ultimately came to an end, when her mother walked out on her father while Alison was still a child, leaving her father to raise her alone.

As Alison entered adolescence, and developed an ambition of becoming a talented singer, her father became extremely intolerant of the idea. He forced her to choose a life similar to his own and follow an education in law.

While Alison was performing at a high school dance show, her mutant powers manifested, and she was forced to blind all in attendance. After this event, Alison hid her mutation for years. This only caused further alienation between she and her father.

After blinding an entire audience, Alison hid her powers for years. Dazzler’s spin-off should follow Alison during these years as she struggles to hide her ‘dazzling’ powers from her father, schoolmates and teachers. It could possibly also ark into how she learned to control these powers (perhaps secret Dazzle-exercises after school?) and how they affected her social circle during high school.
