Marvel: 10 Alternate Universes That Deserve To Be Onscreen

1. The Elizabethan Era (Marvel 1602)

Most well known for the creative power behind it, Neil Gaiman, Marvel 1602 is an intriguing and odd tale bringing the heroes of the Marvel universe into the Elizabethan era of Europe and the Americas.

In this universe, heroes began propagating centuries earlier than in the main Marvel universe, and "witchbreed", or beings with magical or mutant powers, were hunted when a distrustful James VI took the throne. Many major players, including Doctor Strange, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and others, come together to prevent a strange anomaly called The Forerunner from destroying their world and others.

When asked about the tale, Neil Gaiman said "I didn't want it to be a war story, and I didn't want to write a story in which might made right – or in which might made anything." With that take, and an intriguing mystery bringing together familiar yet re-imagined faces in a historical yet fantastical universe, Marvel 1602 would make for a perfect series that'll mix the modern genre of superheroes with something much more classic.

And with other Neil Gaiman properties making for fantastic TV viewing, it's sure to be a hit.
