Star Wars: 10 Best Expanded Universe Comics From The New Canon
5. Shattered Empire (2015)
The first Star Wars comics post the Original Trilogy since the Marvel relaunch, Shattered Empire takes place hours after the destruction of the second Death Star, depicting the Rebellion as they make their plans on how to disband the remainder of the Empire's forces.
Written by Greg Rucka (Wonder Woman) with art by Marco Checchetto (Gamora: Memento Mori), the five-issue mini-series follows Leia and Luke as they take steps to end the Empire's power.
Rucka splits the group as they tackle the Empire's resistance on multiple fronts, from Coruscant to the middle of the crumbling Empire. Every scene is heart-pounding as it picks up from the Original Trilogy While planting seeds for the Sequel Trilogy. As mentioned earlier, Marco Checchetto's art is stunning and manages to capture the appearances of the characters accurately.
The story is a perfect follow on from the Return of the Jedi, expanding the new Star Wars canon. It manages to follow the ending of Episode VI without detracting from it in any way, marking what was a great start to the new Marvel Star Wars line of comics.
