Star Wars: 10 Expanded Universe Comics Every Fan Must Read

8. Age Of Republic

Almost unexpectedly, the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy is experiencing something of a reappraisal as of late. As fans who grew up watching those films have gotten older, a more positive perception of the series has managed to develop, bolstered in part thanks to the fan-favourite Clone Wars series due to return later this year.

It took Marvel a while to alert to this trend, but Age of Republic goes some way in rectifying their delay. Written by Jody Houser, the series is the first of three 'Age of' miniseries that spotlight all three eras from the Star Wars films, and is split into 'heroes' and 'villains'. The likes of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme all get their chance in the spotlight, while Dooku, Grievous and Darth Maul get ample opportunities for exploration in their respective one-shots.

The best thing about Age of Republic isn't just that it's remarkably easy to pick up and enjoy (the self-contained nature of each story means you can read it without having to worry about wider continuity), but rather that each issue contributes something genuinely valuable to each character.

Dooku's one-shot in particular is worth reading for that reason, but all add something interesting to the Prequel Trilogy characters.
