1. Thomas Wayne

Although Thomas Wayne only became Batman in the Flashpoint reality, his depiction is interesting enough that it warrants discussion.

Of all the DC mulitiverses to have piqued fans' interests, Flashpoint is absolutely one of the more successful. It introduced some truly fascinating versions of DC's characters, including tyrannical incarnations of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and even a version of Batman who didn't have any problems with killing. The added twist? Flashpoint's Batman was actually Thomas Wayne - father to Bruce, and husband to Martha.

In pretty much every other DC comic going, Thomas and Martha Wayne are deader than dead. They are so dead, in fact, that they've managed to cheat one of the most repetitive clichés of the superhero genre having never been resurrected. So, when Thomas was revealed to have been Batman in the Flashpoint reality, fans understandably sat up and took notice.

Thomas' origin story was particularly tragic too. Instead of himself and Martha being killed, it was their 8-year-old son. This compelled Thomas to become Batman, while Martha was driven insane by his death and went on to become the Joker.

Batman's comics are usually pretty grim, but this took things to a whole other level entirely. Thomas' circumstances were made even more emotional in DC Rebirth's 'Button' crossover, where he reunites with his son, only to die as the entire Flashpoint continuity is erased from existence.
