Why Comic Fans Hate Cyclops

3. How He Dealt With The Loss Of Jean

Cyclops Evolution
Marvel

She may often have a penchant to go full-on 'insane, cosmic mega villain,' but that doesn't stop Jean Grey being one of the more fan favourite characters of the X-Men world.

A founding member of the X-Men team, Jean would famously be engulfed by the power of the Phoenix Force - (well, that would happen a few times, actually) and wind up dead (again, another recurring Jean Grey theme). But in those times when his dearly beloved was no longer amongst the living, let's just say that Cyclops didn't handle those situations in a way that made readers want to get behind him.

In the aftermath of Jean's numerous deaths, Scott has never been shy about moving on. Of course, one particular death saw Jean even encouraging Scott to make sure to life his live without her - but seeing Cyke quickly shacking up with a new beau has never felt a particularly comfortable sight.

Whether it's Emma Frost, a more brief fling, or even a Jean Grey clone, Cyclops has often soured readers in how he's moved on from the loss of his supposed "one true love".

But wait, did somebody say "Jean Grey clone"...
