The X-Men are legendary. For many years the jewel in Marvel's crown, the last decade has seen the publisher's uncanny group decline in popularity - the unfortunate victim of Marvel and Fox's inter-studio rivalry during the MCU's burgeoning years.

When compared to the massive successes such as those of Grant Morrison and Chris Claremont, the X-Men titles over the last few years haven't exactly been the most memorable - which is likely why sales of the X-books haven't exactly topped the charts for a decent while.

That could all be set to change in 2019, with superstar writer Jonathan Hickman now heading up the mutant corner of the Marvel Universe. The writer kicked off proceedings the other week with House of X #1, a book that promised a lot and seems to have delivered - at least so far. There's still plenty to come, with Marvel having recently unveiled the line-ups on their new X-books coming this October.

Though, with this new run being many readers' jumping on point or a return after many years of not reading X-Men for others, there are plenty of things that need some explaining. So, let's bring everyone up to speed, and see where the X-Men are going into their biggest shakeup in years...

10. The Young Versions Of The Original X-Men Are Gone

This is rather old news now - but important nonetheless.

Back when Brian Michael Bendis presided over the X-books, one of the most interesting things that happened involved the transportation of the younger versions of all the original X-Men to the modern day - which was done to show Cyclops (who had gone down a more villainous route similar to Magneto at this point) how much he had changed in the years since the early days of the team.

The time in which these younger versions of the heroes stuck around in the present day provided some interesting stories, but it was yet another element that made the X-Men titles more confusing, so their returning to their timeline during last year's Extermination was likely a smart move.

Oh, and don't worry about their stories being wiped from continuity, as their older counterparts have gained all of their memories now.
