X-Men: What Happened To Everyone Who Became The Phoenix?

When he died during the superb graphic novel 'The Death of Captain Marvel' in 1982, you'd think that there would be no chance that the original Captain Marvel would be possessed by the Phoenix Force, but as nobody ever stays dead in comic books it was only a matter of time before he was brought back from the dead.

During the Avengers vs. X-Men story arc Mar-Vell is brought back to life by the Kree. They do this by using a combination of the M'Kraan Crystal and the Phoenix Force, where he is then sent out to destroy the Avengers while under the influence of mind control.

Obviously things don't go to plan and when Minister Marvel is discovered as the one responsible for all the brainwashing that's going on he kills himself and his son, before the original Captain Marvel sacrifices himself by allowing the Phoenix Force to basically absorb him.
