5. Dr. Doom (Fantastic 4/F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer)
Dr. Victor Von Doom is the greatest comic book villain ever... period! Okay, that is my opinion, but the consensus you always see in most published top 5 comic book villains list is usually Joker, Lex Luthor, Dr. Doom, Magneto, etc. While three of those have had successful movie interpretations, Doom still hasn't been able to be translated right to the big screen. If you don't count the low-budget Roger Corman produced F4 from 1994, Doom has been on the big screen for two Fantastic 4 films, one from 2005 and the other being 2007. Of course, in many people's opinion, Doom HASN'T been on the big screen yet. Where do I even begin on what went wrong with Doom? Well, I won't waste a long list of what they should have done in order to make him more like the memorable villain he is, I will say that his so called motives were just pathetic. In the first movie, once he becomes Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon), he sets out to destroy the F4, but instead he takes the battle to the streets, absorbs electricity like some low-rate Electro (see upcoming Amazing Spiderman 2), and then gets defeated by being turned into a statue. He didn't really have a plan. In the sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, Doom starts to become a smidge closer to his comic book counterpart. He wants power so he steals the surfboard of the Silver Surfer and becomes a god. Instead of declaring his rule over the universe or something worthy of Doom, he just randomly flies around and does a whole lot of sporadic firing of energies. Frankly, the absurdity comes from the fact that we are to believe that this is suppose to be the great Dr. Doom. It's a crime and I can only hope that the 2015 reboot will have a proper Dr. Doom in it.
