10 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Audiences HATED
7. Carry-On
The beauty of Netflix's business model is that even mediocre and divisive movies will regularly rack up colossal viewing figures, and that's certainly true of the recent Taron Egerton-starring airport thriller Carry-On.
Critics were generally appreciative of the film's B-movie charms, serving as an oft-absurd throwback to '90s action flicks, resulting in a junky but well-made way to pass two hours, basically.
But in stark contrast to the 88% critical approval rating, Carry-On holds just 51% with audiences, many of whom criticised the script's avalanche of implausibilities and were also less welcoming of the film's overall homage to the high-concept genre thrillers of decades past.
Yet because the barrier for entry was as low as pressing the Netflix button on your TV remote, the middling audience reaction didn't make a dent at all.
Within barely a month of its release, Carry-On had received 160.1 million views on the platform, making it the third most-watched English-language Netflix film ever.
