As mentioned in the previous entry, The Rock saw Nicolas Cage make the transition from eccentric Method man to action hero look simple, which was obviously helped by the fact that he starred in three of the greatest action movies of the decade in the space of twelve months.
Arriving in theaters just three weeks before Face/Off, Con Air sees Cage sporting one of the most questionable accent and wig combinations in a career full of them, but his ridiculous looking and sounding Cameron Poe only enhances the movie's undeniable charm.
Boasting perhaps the greatest roster of character actors ever brought together for a blockbuster action movie, Con Air is a non-stop thrill ride of big personalities and even bigger action that still remains endlessly re-watchable over two decades later.
While director Simon West once floated the tantalizing prospect of a sequel taking place in outer space, despite enthusiasm from both the cast and crew over the years about a potential second outing, Con Air ended up being a one-and-done venture.
