3. John Malkovich - Being John Malkovich

Given that the entirety of Spike Jonze's film is about a man finding a way to enter the mind of John Malkovich, choosing a favourite scene proves quite a challenge, though the answer surely has to be the most surreal of the lot, as Malkovich gets wise to the scam and decides to enter the portal to his own mind. The result is a gloriously trippy sequence in which the actor encounters innumerable versions of himself, most disturbingly a well-endowed woman in a dress with Malkovich's head. While the potential for a film like this to get completely up itself is undeniable, the fascinatingly weird nature of the premise and the total lack of self-consciousness on Malkovich's part ensures that this is simply a diverting, fiercely original science fiction film.
