10 Best Dragons In Film & TV

3. Charizard - Pokémon

Yeah, yeah, Charizard is technically not a Dragon type, being Fire/Flying in the Pokémon games. But just look at it! Charizard is an absolutely textbook dragon, clearly inspired by western mythology, while Gyarados (also not a Dragon type but Water/Flying) is based on eastern depictions of the magical beast.

Not a Dragon type with a capital then, but certainly a lower case dragon. Potential asterisk next to his name aside, Ash's Charizard is one of the most recognisable dragons in pop culture, bristling with personality and a key part of so many early Ash storylines.

After evolving from Charmeleon, Charizard takes an instant dislike to Ash, refusing to obey instructions. Given how loyal and loving the rest of Ash's team are, Charizard is a refreshing change and quickly became a fan favourite.

This reaction led to more screen time, two Megas and now a Gigantamax form and has turned some fans sour on him, but he's an iconic 'mon nonetheless.

His battle with Magmar remains one of the best ever battles in the anime's history. It's no Metapod vs Metapod, but still great. His courageous role in the first movie makes him a star of the big screen too, solidifying his place here.
