10 Best Musical Scenes In Movies

1. Hip To Be Square - American Psycho

And now, the movie scene that lives and dies on its musical selection. Throughout American Psycho, the audience has gotten to know Patrick Bateman as a murderous psychopath under the veil of your average New York businessman. Once he finds his next target in Jared Leto's Paul Allen, his monologue on Huey Lewis and the News is one for the ages.

As Bateman seems to be on an even keel in the beginning, he puts on the song "Hip to Be Square" to bring up the mood as Paul Allen rambles in a drunken haze. Things begin to turn a corner though as Bateman makes his way into the bathroom, takes a few pills, and grabs an axe. Bateman's detailed description of the Huey Lewis classic becomes all the more enthused as he dons a raincoat and prepares to strike.

Upon concluding his in-depth analysis of 80's pop, Bateman finally strikes until Allen is left as nothing more than a rotting corpse in the middle of his living room. While calming lighting a cigar and lounging on the couch, the infectious pop sounds of the News fill your ears with an energetic yet extremely unsettling feeling. The tune is a perfect juxtaposition of the inhumane terror as well as being a complex look into the Crazy World of Patrick Bateman.
