10 Best Musical Scenes In Movies
5. Singing In The Rain - Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick's films are some of the most visceral cinema experiences one could ever witness, with A Clockwork Orange being no exception. Throughout its runtime, we get to know Alex as a truly monstrous force of nature and his subsequent anarchic escapades that are as engaging as they are terrifying.
One of the most despicable parts of the film comes when Alex and the Droogs come across the home of a writer and his wife, whom they proceed to torture and sexually assault respectively. While the scene didn't originally have any set score to go along with it, actor Malcolm McDowell added the perfect accompaniment by breaking into the showtune "Singing in the Rain."
This is a perfect antithesis to the heinous acts presented, as Alex becomes more and more energetic with each passing act of hostility. As the song becomes more and more jovial in attitude, the scene is getting closer and closer to madness. The song also comes into play later in the film, when Alex finally finds refuge in the writer's home once again, who doesn't recognize his former attacker until he hears the dreaded showtune yet again. In terms of raw visual horror, this movie takes one of the most upbeat tunes of all time and turns it into an unbearable feat of terror.
