10 Big Questions From The Fantastic Four Trailer

1. How Big An Influence Will Ultimate Fantastic Four Be?

The most conspicuous thing to note from the trailer is the fact that it suggests a comic book movie that is entirely at odds with the particularly pulpy tone of the Fantastic Four comics: there isn't the bright colour palette, the silliness of the Fantasticar and even the special effects associated with the characters look more realistic than fantastical (or as much as they can be). Clearly there's going to be more of those elements introduced later: the first time Mr Fantastic's powers are shown off will compromise the agenda to be as "real" as possible, but none of that means that the film needs to compromise on a conscious attempt to be more intelligent than some other comic book movies. If a close adaptation of the Ultimates universe (albeit with some developments) means nobody has to endure the sight of a bloody Mr Fantastic dance-off then that has to be a good thing. It's just worrying slightly to think that they might go too far the other way, and make something poe-faced and serious that misses Stan Lee's point: at the end of the day, this is still a Fantastic Four movie.
