10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In Recent Comic Book Movies
4. Angela (Thor: Ragnarok)
Anyone with any interest in comic book background politics knows the weird saga of the demon huntress Angela. Created by Neil Gaiman for Todd McFarlane's Image Comics, Angela became a pawn in a rights dispute that later erupted between the two titans of the industry. When the smoke cleared, Gaiman had outright given the rights to Angela to Marvel, partially because they had taken his side in the court case and partially to spite McFarlane one last time.
Under Marvel's ownership, Angela was retconned to be Thor's long-lost sister who had spent her entire life in a hereto unknown realm, thus explaining why Thor and the readers had never heard of her. If this sounds familiar to anyone, it's because the story was essentially recycled in Thor: Ragnarok as the villain Hela's backstory.
While Ragnarok was a spectacular movie and Cate Blanchett's Hela was one of the high points, it was a huge missed opportunity to introduce Angela, a popular character in her own right who has taken many progressive steps in the comics. There's at least a chance she may show up in in Thor: Love and Thunder, but her entire origin story would have to be changed to not be so similar to Hela's.
