9. Andy Serkis

Ever since he was awarded the role of the cadaverous, guttural creature called Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring", Andy Serkis has become synonymous with motion-capture and CGI technology. He went on to portray Tolkein's sickening character in both "LotR" sequels, before being recruited for other roles desiring intense facial performances. In 2005 he was cast as the snorting beast of King Kong, and took his ape experience a notch further by conveying an astonishing emotional range as Caeser in both "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", and its sequel "Rise of the Planet of the Apes". Serkis has since gone on to serve as a CGI and motion-capture consultant on films like 2014's "Godzilla", "The Avengers", and "The Hobbit" (where he reprised his role as Gollum). If you think Serkis' performance as the raspy Smeagol (Gollum) is creepy, take a look at his performance as despicable child-killer Ian Brady in Tom Hooper's "Longford". It's immensely powerful, and cold enough to chill you to the bone. When a depiction is eerie enough to make Gollum seem adorable, you know you've seen something pretty damn scary.
