It's astonishing how The Blob has remained a recognised horror IP for well over half a century, considering there have only been three movies surrounding the amorphous alien. However, it's understandable why the horror community is fascinated by The Blob. After all, the idea of a growing mass of goo swallowing everything it touches is creatively terrifying.

Though there have been several attempts to reboot the property, nothing ever comes of it. At one point, The Devil's Rejects director Rob Zombie was set to remake The Blob. And based on Alex Horley's incredible concept art - some of which is shown above - the film would take a major departure from previous instalments, with the titular extra-terrestrial turning its victims into undead creatures.

Ultimately, Zombie's ambitions for the project dried up after the negative reception he received for Halloween II.

As the White Zombie frontman once told Empire:

"I didn't want to do another remake. If it's too similar to the original, everybody wonders what the point was, but if it's too different, everybody complains that it's too different!"

Believing he couldn't win no matter what approach he took, Zombie walked away, encouraging the studio to abandon The Blob remake.
