10 Cancelled X-Men Movies We Almost Got

6. Dazzler

Dazzler Comics
Marvel Comics

Dazzler seems like a strange one to adapt. While she’s capable of more than her meh cameo in Dark Phoenix, she’s not a heavy hitter, and you would have thought several mutants (and many non-mutant supers) would be ahead of her in the queue.

However, back in the 1980s, screenwriter Gary Goddard was commissioned to write a Dazzler script. Goddard went on to direct Masters Of The Universe and has extensive experience on Broadway and working on creative theme park projects, so he seemed perfect for the gig.

Had this come off, it likely would have been camp cheese beyond belief, but might have become a cult classic.

Bo Derek was attached to star, but when her famously temperamental and difficult husband John Derek joined to direct, investors backed out and the movie went nowhere.

Looking back now, the Dazzler movie not happening doesn’t seem like such a tragedy in the context of superhero movies. With accusations of molesting young boys dogging Goddard later in his career, it might be for the best that the project was shelved anyway.

At any rate, it’ll likely be a long time before we see Dazzler up on the big screen again.
