10 Changes That Make Beauty And The Beast Worse Than The Original
5. THAT Trip To Paris Is Dreadful
The original 1991 film already had a bunch of magical objects: the enchanted rose, the castle servants trapped inside furnishing objects, the magic mirror. It didn't need another in the form of a magical storybook that allows Belle to travel to any place she can.
In this frankly strange and out-of-place scene, Belle breaks into a mournful song about her childhood that she doesn't remember as she was a baby at the time with 'How Does A Moment Last Forever'.
Her father's heroism or self-sacrifice is suggested as he leaves his wife to die from the plague whilst saving his only daughter...but was this really necessary? It's clear Belle doesn't have a mother from the outset and this seems like a wholly patronizing scene purely for modern audiences to safely digest exactly where a character is coming from.
For decades-old fans, it just came off as an unneeded few minutes of character development. We didn't need to feel sorry for Emma Watson's Belle as she came through strongly enough during her singing of 'Belle' (Reprise).
