10 Comic Book Adaptations That Messed Up Iconic Stories

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist teaming up for a mini-series should have been The Avengers of television. Instead, it was one of Netflix's least watched Marvel shows to date.

So, where did it all go wrong? After all, at least three of the characters in the team had critically applauded and fan approved solo tenures on the streaming site. Perhaps, it was just another example of the wrong story being adapted?

While the show didn't focus on any specific story involving The Hand, the ensemble of ninjas have appeared in various Marvel comic book titles and were selected as the primary enemies of The Defenders for the show. However, viewers didn't really take to somewhat grounded heroes like Jones and Cage taking on an army of mystical, near immortal ninjas.

Then there was the fact audiences had already had more than their fill of the evil faction, courtesy of the second season of Daredevil and first series of Iron Fist. Elektra being resurrected and becoming the new leader of The Hand mid-way through the series was also a little out of the blue.

The show would have been better off dipping into Marvel's myriad of villains and selecting one or a team that we hadn't seen on screen before. With all of the Marvel Netflix shows being cancelled since, The Defenders may sadly never get a shot at redemption.
