10 Crazy Details Hidden In Horror Movies
6. The Babysitter - Max’s Death
The Babysitter was an underrated gem when it hit screens in 2017, a return to form for king of cheese McG. A goofy comedy horror with a heavy emphasis on the former and a frankly adorable coming of age plot running through its tight storyline, the film offered a sweeter and less bleak remix of the same year’s Better Watch Out and gave a great introductory performance for Ready or Not starlet Samara Weaving.
The movie is filled with perfectly-timed plants and pay offs which vary in their levels of subtlety, but the one we wanted to note isn’t actually a gag but rather an impressive commitment to visual effects, stomach-turning as it may be.
The Duff’s Robbie Amell steals every scene he’s in as a high school Patrick Bateman dispensing invaluable life advice as he hunts down our adolescent protagonist. The film rarely shies away from hilarious gore, but his hanging is one of the more demure demises, with only a brief shot showing the fate after the fact.
That is, unless you pause that moment and realize that the villainous Max’s spine is actually sticking out of his broken neck - a gruesome and incredibly effective touch which even seasoned horror fans might miss on first viewing.
