10 Deleted Scenes That Would Have Ruined Their Movies

10. Recovering In Hospital - The Shining

Stanley Kubrick's masterful - if unfaithful - adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining proved that the great director was more than capable of tackling the horror genre and transforming it into something nobody had ever seen before - it remains one of the greatest horror movies of all time. It might not have been remembered quite as fondly as it is had a deleted scene made it into the final cut. Kubrick, it seems, had a soft spot for the characters Danny and his mother Wendy and wanted audiences to feel reassured that they were okay after surviving their ordeal in the Overlook Hotel, so he shot a scene showing them recovering in hospital. Fortunately he had a change of heart at the last minute and removed the scene from the released cut. It's probably a good job that he did - a happy ending like this would have totally changed the tone of the film, and not for the better.
