10 Disappointing Comic Book Movies That Deserve A Second Chance
1. Superman Returns
After numerous failed attempts to bring Superman back to the big screen, it was Bryan Singer who finally got to do it in this weird pseudo-sequel to Superman II. Critics praised the adult take on the character and its resemblance to the original film series while fans hated it for mostly the same reasons. They didn’t want an introspective hero and familiar characters, they wanted new takes on them and some bombastic action.
In a weird way, the Zack Snyder films gave fans exactly what they asked for and they quickly realized that they might have ben better off with the way things were. Superman Returns is a case of not knowing what we had until we lost it and Batman V Superman showed just how much better a dramatized Superman is to a video-game version of him.
Ironically, in a movie criticized for its lack of action, the plane sequence may be the best Superman action scene in any of his films. Likewise, though Lex Luthor’s schemes were mocked for not being serious enough, Eisenberg’s made even less sense.
If you’re still trying to detox from this new take on Superman, Superman Returns is a actually a pretty refreshing film, and one far better than it was initially perceived by many.
