10 Disney Villains Who Went Beyond Evil

2. Judge Claude Frollo (The Hunchback Of Notre Dame)

When Disney adapted Victor Hugo’s gothic novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, they certainly didn’t water down the weighty parts that came with it. The movie explores heavy subject matters of lust, genocide, racism and prejudice, amongst several other themes. Within the first 5 minutes of the film, Judge Claude Frollo pursues and kills Quasimodo’s mother and then almost drowns her baby for his ugliness with the intent of that baby going straight to hell.

This pretty much sets the tone for the kind of man Frollo is. He’s largely a hypocrite as he believes himself to be a righteous man of the Lord and claims all his actions are done for God. But he is really the most despicable, sinful human being of all.

After not killing the deformed baby Quasimodo, he raises him as his own but only gives him a horrid life by being emotionally cruel and abusive to make him believe he is a monster. Even when Quasimodo is humiliated at the Festival of Fools, Frollo only watches the torture with no intent of stopping it.

This is enough to warrant Frollo’s evil status. But it doesn’t end there.

Judge Frollo is also a misogynist who sexually gropes the gypsy Esmeralda and then fantasizes about her burning in hell, before forcing her into the decision of either being his sex slave or burning at the stake. He’s greatly prejudiced against the Romani people, with crimes of attempted genocide towards them. And he mass murdered several people through burning half of Paris down just to track down Esmeralda.

In short, Frollo has one of the sickest minds of any Disney character. He’s racist, cruel and bigoted with no redeeming qualities.
