10 Most Excrutiatingly Annoying Comic Book Movie Characters
9. Mary Jane Watson (Spider-Man)
I'll say one thing about Mary Jane in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies: Kirsten Dunst was perfectly cast as the character, and though she's a pretty reasonable damsel in distress in the first movie, Raimi fails to do much with her in the second and third film, deferring to the same tired ideas. Fantastic though Spider-Man 2 is on the whole, Mary Jane is rendered pretty unlikeable by screwing around the nice-but-boring John Jameson, jilting him at the alter and finally realising the obvious truth, that she of course loves Peter Parker. As for Spider-Man 3? Even ignoring how badly the film abused Venom, the overdose on villains, and the cheesy dance sequences, most of the romantic exchanges between Peter and Mary Jane felt like a glorified Dawson's Creek episode. MJ ends up fighting for Peter's affections with Gwen Stacey, but then ends up kissing Harry Osborne, who threatens her to break up with Peter, which she does, before eventually getting back with him at the end. Make your mind up, woman!
