10 Famous Directors You Didn't Know Had Really Weird Fetishes
8. Alfred Hitchcock Had A Compulsion For Women In Glasses
Everyone knows that Alfred Hitchcock had a thing for blonde women, but given that this is a list of directors with fetishes that you didn't know about, that particularly famous fetish will remain unexplored here. That wasn't Hitchcock's only fetish, though; the English director had plenty more where that came from - one of which was for women wearing glasses. It might have seemed like something of a coincidence that Ingrid Bergman (Spellbound), Madeleine Carroll (The 39 Steps) and Barbara Bel Geddes (Vertigo) all wore glasses in their respective Hitchcock movies, but that's not strictly true. Hitchcock's reputation for "controlling" his leading ladies is notably grounded in reality, and the filmmaker - best known for Psycho - consciously projected his own glasses-based fetishes upon them. Bergman even went on record to say that Hitch got annoyed at her if she ever appeared on set without wearing her glasses. "It irritated the devil out of Hitch," she said, before adding: "He had a fetish about glasses." You know, just to hit the point well and truly home.
