10 Films You Didn’t Realise Became TV Shows

9. The Crow: Stairway To Heaven

The Crow was a sleeper hit in 1994, enjoying success both at the box-office and on home video. But after the death of the film's star, Brandon Lee, there were a number of attempts to carry on with the character through a series of poorly received movies, and the short-lived television show, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, which was commissioned in 1998.

Like the film, the series adapted the popular graphic novel of the same name, focusing once again on Eric Draven. Mark Dacascos, who people may remember from the video game adaptation of Double Dragon, replaced Lee in the role. The premise of the show stuck closely to the source material, focusing on a resurrected Draven as he set out to avenge his fiancée's death.

Though it was a moderate success at the time, enjoying both positive reviews and attracting decent ratings, it was cancelled after only one season. Distributors Polygram were bought out by Universal who in turn opted to cancel it. The shock cancellation meant that it ended on a cliffhanger. Though rumours of a TV movie circulated for a number of years, fans never got the ending they hoped for.
