10 Gaping Plot Holes That Will Ruin Your Favorite Movies

1. Selective Flying - E.T.

E.T. is the touching story of a small wrinkly alien who is left stranded on earth by his pals and ends up befriending a human child named Elliott. Things start off amusing enough as E.T. discovers the joys of human life, including the unique combination of beer and Sesame Street, but then it all gets a bit too real as the adorable extra-terrestrial's health begins to fail. All of this could have been prevented though at the very beginning of the film. E.T. proves time and time again that he's capable of flight and yet he bizarrely chose to not board his craft when his kind initially leave him stranded. Eventually, they realise that they've abandoned E.T. on Earth and return to collect him, but why did the little alien choose to not float the short distance to his UFO in the first place? Laziness? Rebellion? Escape from an abusive home? Perhaps E.T.'s parents only returned to collect their offspring to continue receiving child benefits. That's right. E.T.'s mother and father are basically intergalactic trailer trash. And you thought the ending was sad before! Can you think of any better explanations for these gaping plot holes? Which other convenient plot contrivances bug the hell out of you? Let us know in the comments section section below!
