10 Great Found-Footage Horror Movies You've Probably Never Seen

3. The Sacrament

Jim Jones? Never heard of the guy.

In The Sacrament, when a VICE documentary crew heads in to investigate a mysterious commune, they soon discover that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. As it turns out, the supposed peaceful commune is harbouring a dark and deadly secret.

If you know anything about the story of Jonestown, a lot of what happens in this movie will feel familiar. The villain, known as Father, is straight up Jim Jones. His actor's performance is so good, it's as if you're watching a man who is rightfully dead being brought back to life in front of you. Yet at the same time, you can't take your eyes off the guy because of how fascinating he is to watch. This contrast between your desire to look away but inability to do so is at the heart of what makes the film so frightening.

The same can be said for the eventual finale of the film, which is so raw and grounded that it almost feels wrong.
