10 Great Modern Horror Movies That Were Made For Next To Nothing

4. Stalled (2013)

This British production is one of the more cash-flushed (pun intended) entries on our list, with a production budget of £45,000. Even so, this film from director Christian James and writer-actor Dan Palmer is a great example of how horror movies can be inventive and compelling with limited means at their disposal - and, indeed, how such limitations can be worked to an advantage.

A high-concept, low-brow comedy horror, Stalled presents a zombie apocalypse as seen from a toilet cubicle. Palmer takes the lead as the brilliantly named WC, a janitor who gets trapped in the ladies' room when the living dead attack (no problem if he feels the need to soil himself, at least).

With the action confined almost entirely to a single room, Stalled progresses in a largely unpredictable fashion. Despite the confined setting there's no shortage of thrills, spills, and laughs, and even a bit of girl-on-girl sex appeal - but perhaps most surprising is how dramatic and emotional it gets come the finale.

Ben Bussey hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
