10 Great Superman Stories That Could Save The DCEU

7. Superman: Red Son

Superman Man Of Steel
DC Comics

Author Mark Millar's pitch for this story is so incredibly intriguing and full of potential that it's strange that there's been no live-action adaptation of the Man of Steel's exploits in the Soviet Union.

Red Son explores this premise with admirable gusto and introduces radical changes that would take the DCEU to new creative heights.

Superman is reimagined as the ''champion of the common worker, who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism and the international expansion of the Warsaw pact''. He has traces of his more traditional heroic persona, but also has the capacity to be substantially more ruthless than our conventional Man of Steel.

DC mainstays such as Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern are also radically reimagined, and cinematic adaptations of these characters would be unlike their previous incarnations.

The story's era and setting means that the superhero genre would be gifted with another period piece, that is thankfully not predominantly set in New York or a New York stand-in.
