10 Harsh Truths We Don't Want To Admit About Awesome Movies

6. The Shawshank Redemption Should Have Ended 2 Minutes Earlier

The Shawshank Redemption Don't get me wrong, I love this movie, and it probably stored up enough goodwill throughout that it had earned a sappy ending, but wouldn't the film have felt a lot more water-tight if the last 2 minutes weren't in there, even if they probably were justified? Andy Dufresne escapes from prison, and Red finally gets paroled, visiting Buxton and finding the cache Andy and him had discussed. It has a letter fr0m Andy inviting him to Zihuatanejo, which Red heads to, and we see that Andy is there waiting for him. It's a happy reunion, and the film ends. Wouldn't it have been more interesting if the answers were left to us to imagine; did Andy ever get caught after escaping? Maybe he found something else and moved on; it should have ended with Red heading to meet Andy, and the rest is left to our imagination. No? I'm expecting considerable abuse for this one in the comments (be kind)...
