When you get a horror film based around in-movie horror fanatics then you know you’re in for a treat. In this offering, a group of friends take a trip to a ‘Slasher Sleepout’: essentially a very big, long escape room set in a forest.

It’s meant to be one big game, sort of like a haunted house experience. Each attendee is informed that they have a safeword, that they can be touched by the people conducting it but can’t touch them back - the standard procedure at most horror experiences to prevent people from punching some poor actor in the face.

Our protagonist is the only one of her group that isn’t really into horror movies, so we can understand when she is less than impressed that this experience turns bad. With the least knowledge of them all, she finds herself thrown in at the deep end when she has to deduce who is killing off the attendees.

It really is a great set-up, with a fun mix of meta-humour and slasher self-indulgence. After watching it, however, you can’t be blamed for maybe sitting out the next escape room trip with your mates.
