Watching V/H/S feels like walking through a haunted house. You're constantly bombarded by some new terror, as this horror anthology features everything serial killers to ghosts to possessed girls. It's the last segment, though, that makes that haunted house analogy quite literal.

The final short film, 10/31/98, takes place on Halloween night 1998, and the premise is nothing short of genius. It follows a group of guys heading out on the town for Halloween night, specifically heading to a party at their friend's house. They seem to have ended up at the wrong place when they arrive and nobody's home, but as they begin to experience what looks like supernatural phenomenon, they realize they're in a haunted house and decide to have fun with it. The catch is that while the guys believe they're in a fake haunted house, they're actually in a real one.

It's so fun to watch because you're laughing along with these characters as you would with your friends while walking through a Halloween attraction, but at the same time, you know that everything they're experiencing is legit, adding a level of dramatic irony. It imagines a scenario where what you experience on Halloween night isn't as fake as you think, a creepy thought that'll surely stick with you on October 31st.
