Dario Argento's directorial debut The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is one of the formative entries into the giallo horror subgenre and put Argento's name on the map overnight.

Considering the popularity of Argento's filmography, it's honestly surprising that only his Suspiria has received a high-profile remake, yet that's soon enough set to change.

During this year's Cannes Film Festival, it was announced that Argento had sold the rights to his first three films, with The Bird with the Crystal Plumage being the first set to get the remake treatment.

Though little details are known about the remake so far - there's no cast or crew attached - it's been said to deviate markedly from Argento's original serial killer story, as will surely prove controversial with fans.

And of course, living up to the mesmerising style and intoxicating tone of Argento's original will be a near-Herculean feat for whoever dares to take it on.
