10 Horror Films You Didn't Know Were Being Remade
4. Cube
Vincenzo Natali's 1997 sci-fi horror Cube is a veritable cult classic - a low-budget, claustrophobic horror film which made the absolute most of the limited resources available to deliver a truly unique genre entry.
Its surprise success led to a sequel and a prequel, before Cube received a Japanese remake back in 2021. But did you know that another, second remake is also in the works?
In April 2015, a remake entitled Cubed was first announced, with Prometheus' Jon Spaihts attached to pen the script, while music video director Saman Kesh was signed to helm.
Word went quiet on the project in the years that followed, but last year it was reported that Lionsgate had renewed their interest in it, albeit while scrapping the long-stalled remake involving Spaihts and Kesh.
Lionsgate is currently considering pitches on precisely what the new remake will be, and given both the series' immediately appealing conceit and its ability to be produced for a relatively low budget, it's honestly shocking it's taken this long to get a remake going.
Then again, given how much the original felt like such a lightning-in-a-bottle moment, and the recent Japanese remake being a total bust, it's fair to have low expectations for this one.
